Jana Wang wants you to put that plastic bottle down. And reconsider your approach to consumer packaged goods by just refilling that perfectly good, reusable bottle for your soap, shampoo and detergents.
Inspired by a friend's shop in Sacramento, Wang decided to open "Refill Madness" in the city of Sonoma to show that you don't need to embrace a throwaway mentality when you want to be clean. A Sonoma native, Wang traveled extensively in Asia during a stint teaching English in Taiwan. During our weekly feature, "We Get Questions," Wang helps travelers from Indiana find a place to taste wine where they can see vineyards (a lot of places,) figures out how to find a meal at a winery, and reveals the best way to make a bug-repellant using more natural ingredients like lavender, citronella and eucalyptus. And because we are on vacation, we will of course detail where to find ice cream. As you do.

Film maker George Dondero had the audacity to not only shoot an independent film in Sonoma, but he dared question the orthodoxy that it's "always a lovely day in Sonoma." His new movie, "War of the Wills" was filmed in Sonoma, Petaluma and Windsor and centers on the struggle between a father and a son battling over an inheritance of money and house. The catch? They have to live in the same house for a month and not leave. And they have strong feelings of dislike towards each other.Sonoma County actors take a star turn in this dark comedy that examines generational cycles and patterns and if it's possible to break these cycles.George then details that my large, clumsy, dwarf-like hands weren't pretty enough to be featured in a commercial about how to save water. And then admits that his partner, Bethany Browning, is a really good writer with a really twisted mind, as evidenced by her latest book Sasquatch, Baby! As always he also helps answer YOUR Sonoma Valley questions during "We Get Questions." This week: a couple from Sweden wants to know where you can get grape juice - not wine - at a Sonoma Valley winery in June (grapes don't mature on the vines until September usually,) if Sonoma Valley is a good place to shoot movies and are we more known for our red wines or our white wines? It's all this on the Sonoma Spiel, the most interesting podcast in Sonoma Valley.Listen! Joe D’Alessandro - The Return of San Francisco - Sonoma Spiel
Monday May 22, 2023
Monday May 22, 2023
Every ten to fifteen years or so, pundits and wags write the obituary for San Francisco. Ink gets spilled, think pieces get thunked and opinions opined about the "cool, gray city of love," but none of these ever encapsulate the reality that San Francisco, like the mythical phoenix that flies on the city flag, is a city constantly in the process of rebirth and ascension.
Joe D'Alessandro, President & CEO of SF Travel, talks about San Francisco, the City that Knows How, and what's happening in and around the Bay. And he breaks BIG NEWS - Super Bowl 60 is coming back to San Francisco, ten years after the wildly successful party and week-long celebration when SF hosted Super Bowl 50.

This week on the Sonoma Spiel we discuss competitive gardening, how to properly do the Sonoma Tuesday Night Party/Farmers Market (bring a blanket, a bottle opener and a bag for the food) and the odd affinity for corn dogs that somehow lives eternal among Sonomans at the market. Then Mark Bodenhamer of the Sonoma Valley Chamber advises not trying to horn in on the Friday bocce people, because they don't mess around, and Michelle Lacy tells us about her fave events for a Sonoma summer. Then we answer your requests for info because "We Get Questions" and we want you to know that we know what you want to know. (Question: can you just pop in to Muir Woods to see the redwoods on your way from Sonoma to San Francisco? Are there other ways to see the redwoods if you don't want to make a reservation?)Listen up!
